Why do you need a custom-made mouthguard???

What's wrong with the one I buy from the chemist?

1. These are generally called "boil-and-bite" mouthguards. They can be bought from the chemist, supermarkets, sporting goods stores and even on the internet!

2. They must be fitted yourself! This is a very tricky process that involves boiling water and very sticky fingers (and sometimes a burnt mouth!)

3. They do not form as well as they should, restricting speech and breathing

4. They vary in thickness in different areas due to the way they are moulded in the mouth
